Matt has slaved over the basement for hours upon hours for the last 10 months. We both worked on the basement all weekend to finish up some final touches. The only things left are a few electrical issues (We need Brayden to help us with that), we need to find a vent that we drywalled over (yes, that really happened), and we need to carpet the floor. We went to a few stores this weekend, found, and ordered our carpet. They are coming to measure on Wednesday, and we'll hopefully have our carpet installed within the next two to three weeks!! The bathroom and kitchenette are completely finished (since they were tiled). Here's some of the finished pics:

We have our cabinets & countertops for the basement! The cabinets are fully installed; countertops soon to be. We're waiting on the bar countertop to be cut first.

We're working on tiling the bathroom (Matt), getting the electric hooked up--we have lightswitches!! (Brayden), and finishing up painting-cutting in on the walls/ceilings, painting completmentary colors in the windowsills & shelves (Christee). Here's some pictures so far. What's the next step? Painting the bathroom (Christee), installing the doors & baseboards (Matt), getting the plumbing finished in the bathroom (Plumber). We're getting there!!

Matt rented a sprayer to paint the ceiling and the walls. Check out his pic after spraying the ceiling! Thank goodness he was wearing a face mask! I guess this is what his hair will look like when it gets gray!

We have new stairs!! Thanks to the hard work of Dad (Larry)! They still need to be sanded, stained, and finished BUT they look SO much better already!!

We've been making real progress with the basement over the last few weeks. The stairs are in (still need to be finished). The drywall has been mudded, taped, and mostly painted (still some cutting in to finish). Matt has even started laying tile by the bar area. The theme for the basement is "Earth Elements". It was somewhat unintentional when we decided on tan walls with accent colors in Forest Green and Deep Brown. Then we liked the idea and went with multi-color slate tile and some sort of stone finish on the bar. Here's a few pictures from start to (almost) finish---with many more to come!

The Drywall is up!! We still need to have the guy come in and mud & tape, but we're getting closer!!

We were so blessed to have friends and family help with some of the drywalling. My dad, Matt's dad & brother, Stoyan & even Macy helped out. With their help we were able to accomplish what would take Matt weeks and weeks to do. In fact, since I am posting this pretty late....I will say that Matt has been working on the basement for the last week & is probably somewhat discouraged. It took only a few hours to get lots of drywall up...but it is taking Matt tons of hours every night to try and get the smaller, tougher spots taken care of. I have even been recruited (btw no construction experience) to drill a few screws into the drywall while he holds the drywall up to the ceiling. Thank you GOD...for sending me my Wonderful Matt...that will do everything it takes to get the job done.

Magnificant Matthew has been working hard on drywalling the ceilings! He worked for two weeks to get it done before we had a few people over to drywall the walls. We appreciate all the hard work he puts into finishing the basement. He is literally downstairs every night. Even I wish he would take a night off!!

Matt's been hard at work on the basement! The first time he installed the insulation, it was backwards!! The guy at Lowe's told us to put the paper towards the concrete. Apparently everyone else knows this is not true except for us & the Lowe's guy. So, Matt had to flip all the insulation after spending hours putting it in wrong!!

When I say "we're" finishing our basement, it really doesn't give Matt enough credit because, really, "he" is finishing our basement. Over the last couple years Matt has begun to have more and more house projects. Before he sold his condo, he added a 1/2 bath and remodeled his two existing bathrooms. Since we've moved into our new home last June, Matt has tiles the kitchen backsplash and has been working very hard to finish our basement. He's put so much work into it already and there is still lots to go. We're very proud & appreciate all he has done so far. So, here's some pics to see the progress so far!!
